Best Rust server hosting
Your own Rust server means your rules: wipe schedule, map size, and plugins through Oxide (uMod) or Carbon.
Why get a dedicated Rust server?
Official and big community servers are brutal for small groups. Your own server lets you pick the map, the player count, the gather rates and the wipe schedule, so it can be anything from a relaxed build server to a full PvP battleground.
What to look for in a Rust server host
Map size drives performance
Bigger maps and more players need more memory. Start with a procedural map around the default size.
Plan around forced wipes
Rust wipes every map with the monthly update on the first Thursday. Schedule your own wipes around it.
Plugins
Oxide (uMod) and Carbon add plugins for kits, teleports, clans and admin tools.
How to set up a Rust server
Choose Rust
Pick a plan and select Rust. The dedicated server installs for you.
Set the basics
Server name, description, max players, world size and seed.
Install Oxide or Carbon
Most hosts install either with one click. Then add plugins to the plugins folder.
Join
Open the F1 console in Rust and type client.connect followed by your IP and port (28015 by default).
Rust server settings worth changing
- server.worldsize
- Map size. Smaller maps mean more action and less memory.
- server.seed
- Changes the map layout. Try a few until you find one you like.
- server.maxplayers
- Your player cap.
- Gather rates
- Set with a plugin, from vanilla to 10x.
Questions
Do I have to wipe my Rust server?
Yes. The monthly update on the first Thursday forces a map wipe. Blueprint wipes are up to you.
How do players join?
Through the in-game server browser, or with client.connect IP:port in the F1 console.
Can I run a modded server?
Yes. With Oxide or Carbon installed, your server is listed in the Modded tab of the browser.
